SHETTIMA: “ONLY A FOOL OR IMPOSTER WILL CHALLENGE TINUBU IN 2027”
Vice President Kashim Shettima has declared that anyone aiming to challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election would be embarking on a “suicidal mission” unless they possess genuine political strength.
Speaking on Friday during the 15th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC), held at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja, Shettima insisted that President Tinubu remains the strongest political figure ahead of the next general election.
According to him, modern elections cannot be won through social media popularity or “emotional nostalgia,” but through strong coalitions, credible structures and nationwide conviction.
He said:
“Only a fool, hell-bent on a suicidal path, or an outright imposter can dare to challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027. But we are in a democracy, and people are free to contest elections.”
Shettima argued that the APC’s political machinery, combined with Tinubu’s leadership experience, gives the ruling party a major advantage.
“With the experience of our president as our shield, and the lessons of the past as our guide, I believe 2027 is not a gamble; it is a responsibility. By the grace of God, we shall have a renewable blessing,” he stated.
Shettima’s comments come as the APC leadership intensifies preparations for the next election cycle. Many party leaders have already adopted President Tinubu as the party’s sole candidate for 2027, reflecting growing confidence within the ruling party.
The Vice President’s remarks also recall Tinubu’s victory in the 2023 election, where he defeated Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rabiu Kwankwaso — a contest decided through broad alliances, party structure, and national mobilisation.
Observers say Shettima’s declaration signals the ruling party’s early positioning and may further heat up Nigeria’s political environment as opposition parties prepare for the next electoral battle.
