PRO-KANU SUPPORTERS STAGE ‘ONE MILLION MARCH’ PROTEST IN ABA

Supporters of detained separatist leader Nnamdi Kanu staged a large protest in Aba, Abia State, on Thursday, calling for his immediate release from detention. The demonstration, described by organizers as a “One Million March,” was reportedly organized by pro-Biafra groups and sympathizers of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). Protesters were seen marching through major streets in Aba while chanting pro-Biafra slogans and displaying placards demanding freedom for the IPOB leader.Videos circulating on social media showed large crowds moving through parts of the commercial city, with some protesters waving Biafra flags and calling on the Nigerian government to comply with court rulings they claim favor Kanu’s release.Security personnel were reportedly deployed in parts of Aba to monitor the situation and ensure that the demonstration remained peaceful. There were no immediate reports of violence at the time of the protest.Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, has remained in detention since his controversial arrest and extradition in 2021. He is currently facing charges related to terrorism and separatist agitation, although his supporters insist that his detention is unlawful and politically motivated. The protest adds to ongoing calls from some groups in Nigeria’s South-East region demanding his release, a development that continues to generate political and legal debate across the country.
