EL-RUFAI THREATENS ₦15.6BN LAWSUIT AGAINST ICPC OVER ALLEGED RIGHTS VIOLATION
Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has threatened to institute a ₦15.6 billion lawsuit against the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) over what he described as unlawful actions taken against him by the anti-graft agency.According to his legal representatives, the former governor is considering legal action against the commission for alleged illegal detention, defamation, and malicious prosecution connected to an ongoing investigation. The legal team argued that the actions of the anti-corruption agency violated El-Rufai’s fundamental human rights, warning that the former governor may proceed to court to seek damages unless the situation is addressed. The development follows reports that the ICPC recently filed documents in court listing items allegedly recovered during an operation at El-Rufai’s residence in Abuja as part of its investigation.Sources familiar with the matter say the recovered materials were documented in a court filing as part of the commission’s case.As of the time of filing this report, the ICPC has not issued an official public response to the lawsuit threat. The unfolding dispute is expected to draw significant public attention, given El-Rufai’s prominent role in Nigerian politics and the broader anti-corruption efforts being pursued by federal authorities.
