BREAKING: FEMALE STUDENT BEATEN TO DEATH, CORPSE SET ABLAZE FOR ALLEGEDLY INSULTING PROPHET MUHAMMAD IN SOKOTO

A tragic and violent incident has occurred in Sokoto State, northwest Nigeria, where a female student of Shehu Shagari College of Education, identified as Deborah Samuel Yakubu, was beaten to death and her corpse set ablaze by a mob of students after being accused of blaspheming the Prophet Muhammad.
According to multiple verified reports, the 200-level student was alleged to have posted a comment in a class WhatsApp group that some fellow students considered insulting to Islam and the Prophet Muhammad. In response, a mob of students chased her, dragged her from a security post where school authorities had attempted to protect her, and subjected her to brutal violence before killing her and burning her body. Video footage of the incident circulated widely online, underscoring the extreme brutality of the attack.

In the aftermath of the attack, the Sokoto State government ordered the immediate closure of the college and security forces reportedly arrested at least two suspects seen in the video. However, civil liberties groups and legal observers criticized the charges brought against them as insufficient relative to the severity of the crime.

The killing has sparked national and international condemnation, raising alarm over mob justice and religious intolerance in parts of northern Nigeria where accusations of blasphemy can fuel violent vigilante actions. Human rights advocates have called for thorough investigations and accountability for those involved.
