BISHOP KUKAH VISITS NNAMDI KANU IN SOKOTO PRISON

Catholic Bishop of the Sokoto Diocese, Matthew Hassan Kukah, has visited the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, at the Sokoto prison facility.

Though full details of the meeting remain undisclosed, sources familiar with the visit suggest discussions focused on peace-building, national unity and the long-standing controversies surrounding Kanu’s continued detention.

The visit comes amid renewed pressure from several civil rights organisations and socio-political groups calling on the Federal Government to release Kanu or fast-track judicial proceedings on his case.

Bishop Kukah, known for his involvement in national dialogue and conflict mediation, has played key roles in past reconciliation efforts across the country. His meeting with Kanu may signal a fresh push for negotiated solutions to long-standing separatist tensions.

Kanu has been held for years over allegations of treasonable offences linked to his campaign for an independent Biafran state. His arrest and detention have sparked protests, legal battles, and ongoing debate within Nigeria and across the diaspora.

The Federal Government has not yet issued a statement regarding Bishop Kukah’s visit, while supporters of Kanu hope the development could influence future decisions surrounding his case.

More updates are expected as more information becomes available.
