IRAN DECLARES STRAIT OF HORMUZ CLOSED AFTER FAILED US TALKS IN ISLAMABAD
Tensions between Iran and the United States have escalated sharply after high-level negotiations in Islamabad, Pakistan, ended without agreement, with Iranian officials declaring the talks a complete failure.
According to reports, more than 20 hours of discussions between both sides failed to produce any breakthrough on key issues, including nuclear commitments and regional security concerns.Following the collapse of the talks, a statement attributed to the Iranian Embassy in Ghana reportedly declared that the negotiations were over and insisted that the Strait of Hormuz remains closed.
The statement also accused the United States of making unrealistic demands during the discussions. On the American side, U.S. Vice President JD Vance, who led the delegation, confirmed that while the talks were extensive, no agreement was reached.
He stressed that the United States’ primary condition remains a firm commitment from Iran that it will not pursue nuclear weapons or the capability to quickly develop them.“We’ve had a number of substantive discussions with the Iranians.
The bad news is that we have not reached an agreement,” Vance said, adding that the outcome was more negative for Iran than for the United States.
The negotiations were hosted by Pakistan as part of diplomatic efforts to reduce rising tensions in the Middle East. Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif played a mediating role, engaging both delegations and expressing hope that the talks would lead to lasting peace.
Despite these efforts, the talks collapsed, deepening uncertainty in an already volatile region. The Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil transit route, remains a central point of tension, with concerns that continued disruption could affect international energy markets.
The situation has further escalated following warnings from U.S. President Donald Trump, who criticized Iran’s actions regarding the waterway and warned of possible consequences if tensions continue to rise. With negotiations now stalled, the failed talks mark a significant setback for diplomatic efforts aimed at de-escalation between Washington and Tehran.-
