President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday decorated Mr. Tunji Disu as the Acting Inspector-General of Police during a ceremony at the Presidential Villa, following the resignation of former IGP Kayode Egbetokun.Egbetokun, who was appointed on June 19, 2023, resigned on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, citing family reasons, paving the way for Disuβs appointment in an acting capacity.ASSUMPTION OF OFFICEAfter the decoration ceremony at the State House, Disu proceeded to the Force Headquarters in Abuja, where he officially assumed duty at about 4:25 p.m. He took his first salute as Acting IGP from members of the Quarter Guard before participating in a formal handover ceremony with the outgoing police chief.Senior officers, including Deputy Inspectors-General of Police, were present at the ceremony, marking a smooth leadership transition within the Nigeria Police Force.WHAT HAPPENS NEXTDisuβs appointment as Acting IGP is subject to constitutional procedures.
