GUNMEN ABDUCT WORSHIPPERS DURING MIDNIGHT SERVICE IN ONDO

Suspected gunmen in the early hours of Wednesday invaded a branch of the Celestial Church of Christ in Uso, Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State, abducting worshippers during an ongoing church service.According to reports, the attackers stormed the church at about 1:00 a.m. while members were gathered for worship. The armed men reportedly whisked the victims away to an unknown destination, causing panic within the community.The spokesperson of the Ondo State Police Command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, confirmed the incident in a statement issued in Akure on Wednesday.Jimoh disclosed that upon receiving the report, security operatives immediately mobilised to the scene in collaboration with the Nigerian Army and local vigilante groups to begin coordinated rescue operations.He further revealed that one of the abducted worshippers has been rescued, while one suspect linked to the attack has been arrested and is assisting investigators with useful information.Security agencies said operations are ongoing to ensure the safe rescue of the remaining victims and the arrest of other perpetrators involved in the attack.Residents of the area have been urged to remain calm, vigilant, and provide credible information to security agencies to aid ongoing operations.The incident adds to growing security concerns in parts of Ondo State, particularly in the Owo axis, where residents have repeatedly called for strengthened security presence.
