APC’s MAIKALANGU WINS AMAC CHAIRMANSHIP ELECTION
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Christopher Maikalangu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) chairmanship election held on Saturday, February 21, 2026.Announcing the result at the AMAC collation centre in Abuja, the Collation Officer, Prof. Andrew Abue, said Maikalangu secured the highest number of votes cast in the election.According to INEC, Maikalangu polled 40,295 votes out of 62,861 valid votes, defeating candidates from several other political parties.The African Democratic Congress (ADC) came second with 12,109 votes, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) polled 3,398 votes.INEC disclosed that the total number of registered voters in AMAC stood at 837,338, with 65,676 accredited voters. A total of 65,197 votes were cast, including 2,336 rejected votes.Declaring the result, the Collation Officer stated that Maikalangu, having satisfied the requirements of the law, was duly returned elected.The AMAC chairmanship election was part of the broader Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council polls conducted across the six area councils.Party agents present at the collation centre signed the result sheets, while some party representatives described the electoral process as transparent.
