EL-RUFAI FACES THREE-COUNT CHARGE OVER ALLEGED NSA PHONE INTERCEPTION CLAIM

The Federal Government has instituted a three-count criminal charge against former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, at the Federal High Court of Nigeria, Abuja.According to court filings, the charges arose from statements allegedly made during his appearance on Prime Time Programme on February 13, 2026.Details of the ChargesCount One – Alleged Unlawful Interception of Communications:The prosecution alleges that El-Rufai admitted to intercepting phone communications belonging to the Office of the National Security Adviser.Count Two – Alleged Failure to Report an Offence:He is accused of knowingly associating with individuals involved in the interception and failing to report the alleged unlawful act to security agencies.Count Three – Alleged Threat to National Security:The charge further claims that the alleged interception was carried out using technical systems in a manner that could compromise public safety and national security.The case has been assigned to the Federal High Court in Abuja. As of press time, no judgment has been delivered.Legal observers note that allegations involving interception of protected communications carry serious implications if proven under Nigerian law.
