NIGERIA OFFICIALLY APPROVES U.S.-LED AIRSTRIKES AGAINST ISIS TERRORISTS — DHQ STATEMENT

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) of Nigeria has confirmed that the recent precision airstrikes carried out jointly by the Nigerian Armed Forces and the United States military against identified ISIS-linked terrorist elements in Northwest Nigeria were executed with the formal approval of the Federal Government of Nigeria.

In an official statement, the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, disclosed that the operation was based on credible intelligence and detailed operational planning with the aim of degrading the capabilities of the targeted terrorist groups while minimizing collateral damage.

The strike operation underscores the ongoing security cooperation between Nigeria and strategic international partners in the fight against terrorism. Nigeria has been collaborating with the United States to share intelligence and coordinate actions against extremist groups that have posed significant threats to national peace and security.

The operation represents a key example of bilateral coordination in defense and counter-terrorism, as both nations work to prevent foreign terrorist fighters from establishing or expanding their foothold within Nigeria’s borders.
