TRUMP DIPLOMATIC SHAKE-UP PUTS FOCUS ON NIGERIA’S SECURITY CHALLENGES

The United States has recalled its Ambassador to Nigeria, Richard Mills, as part of a large-scale diplomatic realignment ordered by President Donald Trump.
The U.S. Embassy in Abuja confirmed the recall, describing it as a routine process following changes in administration. According to U.S. officials, ambassadors serve at the discretion of the president and may be replaced to reflect new foreign policy priorities.
Reports indicate that Africa is the most affected region, with diplomatic missions in over a dozen countries impacted. Analysts warn that the transition could temporarily disrupt cooperation on key security matters, including counterterrorism operations against Boko Haram.
Observers say the move may increase international pressure on President Bola Tinubu’s administration to urgently address Nigeria’s growing security concerns.
