INDIAN DOCTOR UNDER INVESTIGATION AFTER ALLEGED ASSAULT ON SERIOUSLY ILL PATIENT GOES VIRAL
An Indian doctor at Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) in Shimla is under investigation following allegations that he physically assaulted a seriously ill patient during treatment.
The incident, which occurred on Monday, involved a patient identified as Arjun Panwar, who had reportedly undergone a bronchoscopy and was experiencing breathing difficulties at the time.
According to Panwar, the doctor spoke to him rudely without provocation and became confrontational after the patient requested to be treated with respect. The situation allegedly escalated into physical violence, an incident that was captured on video and has since gone viral online.
In response to public outrage, hospital authorities confirmed that a three-member inquiry committee has been constituted to investigate the matter. The Medical Superintendent of IGMC Shimla, Dr Rahul Rao, said the committee would submit its findings soon, adding that a police report has also been filed against the accused doctor.
The incident has renewed debate in India over patient rights, professional conduct in healthcare settings, and accountability within public hospitals.
